Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day from Hillside Public Schools! On Saturday, January 18th, 2025, Hillside Public Schools District hosted its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Program at Hillside High School. The program was amazing not only because of the exceptional performances by each of our schools' students, as well as the decorative artwork done by Hillside Innovation Academy students, but also because of the high positive energy of the audience! The auditorium was full of parents, Hillside community members, Hillside Board of Education members, Hillside Town Council members, families, staff, and more! Great work to all of our students, including Hillside High School Senior Sarah Auguste who was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event! Shout out to Superintendent Glover, Hillside Board of Education President Ms. Best, U.S. Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, Hillside High School Vice-Principals Mrs. Bartholomew and Mr. Emenaka, who all spoke at the ceremony. The @scholastic R.E.A.L. Mentor Reading event took place today (1/10/2025)! Hillside Public Schools' staff members, Hillside High School students, Hillside Policemen, Firefighters, Hillside Board of Education members, and more, served as mentors! Our mentors traveled to A.P. Morris Early Childhood Center, and all the Hillside Elementary Schools to read to our young students, helping to instill a love of reading in our students! Not only were our young students read to, but they also got to bring home a new book to add to their home libraries! Shout out to all our mentors including Hillside Board of Education President Ms. Best, our Hillside High School student readers, Hillside Public Schools administrators, and staff. Tomorrow, Friday, November 22, 2024, marks the kickoff of our Scholastic R.E.A.L. Mentorship Program! Please see the emailed letter describing the program commencing tomorrow, as our mentors read to students across the district once a month!
In Mrs. Corrothers' first-grade class at A.P. Morris Early Childhood Center, students used sky observation charts as data about daytime and nighttime hours on two different days! Students used snap cubes to represent and compare the lengths of daytime and nighttime hours. Scholars then used a bar graph they analyzed to determine what causes daytime to be longer or shorter!

In the OpenSciEd pilot unit on Forces & Motion, Ms. Modena's students at A.P. Morris have been busy planning, building, and soon testing their own mini golf courses! Through this hands-on project, scholars are learning how to make things move by pushing and pulling. They are also figuring out ways to make their golf courses fun yet challenging!
