Schools across our district hosted Halloween parades, including A.P. Morris, Deanna Taylor, Hurden Looker, and Ola Edwards! At Hillside High School, both students and staff dressed in costumes, and Mrs. Deutsch's AP Language and Composition students even wrote short horror stories! It's been a fun, creative day in Hillside Public Schools, and these are just a few pictures that capture the spirit of today's celebrations. Hillside Innovation Academy Scholars express their gratitude to Dr. Lamont Repollet, President of Kean University and Dr. Sancha Gray, Senior Vice President for Entrepreneurial Education Initiatives @keanuniversity for bringing keynote speaker @shaunboothe's "Unauthorized Biography Series" on October 26th, to our HIA Scholars. Mr. Boothe's series is a musical project that celebrates the world's greatest cultural icons through biographical hip-hop songs! Mr. Boothe performed for our scholars, while simultaneously educating them about cultural pioneers including Muhammad Ali, Oprah Winfrey and Jimi Hendrix! HIA extends a warm thank you to Principal Victoria Palmer-Gilliard and Principal Rahim Graham for supporting Kean Stage's Manager, Steve Cochran and his assistant Emily Bonaria with the pre-event setup and for allowing us to host Mr. Shaun Boothe at A.P. Morris' Auditorium.

A.P. Morris Pre-K classes visited Wightman Farms in Morristown on Oct 24th. Students rode a tractor, picked pumpkins, walked a hay maze, and had apple cider and donuts! It was a day filled with fun and learning about pumpkins!

Talk about mental health issues with others, especially children if they are showing signs of depression or anxiety.
Attend events in your town by checking your county’s calendar.
Donate to mental health organizations or charities that provide support and fund research.
Volunteer your time with organizations that provide help to those who are suffering from mental health issues.
There sometimes is a stigma or discrimination in communities for individuals who have mental health issues, which causes many individuals not to seek out the help that they may need. There is no need for anyone to go untreated. There are many services available.

This is unity, this is Hillside. Hillside Public Schools just completed an absolutely monumental Ruby Bridges Walk! Students, staff, administrators, Hillside Police Officers, Board of Education members, and community members converged from all corners of Hillside to walk in harmony from Hurden Looker Elementary School to Hillside High School! Led by Superintendent Glover, Colonel Drakeford, the Hillside NAACP, and @hillsideajrotc students, Hillside Public Schools staff, Community Stakeholders, and students from Hurden Looker, Ola Edwards Community School, and Deanna G. Taylor Academy marched in honor of Ms. Ruby Bridges, the first black student to integrate an elementary school in the United States in 1960! Thank you Board President Cook, Board of Education members, Hillside NAACP, Superintendent Glover, and our entire district for an amazing, historic, commemorative walk!
